Sidewalk Etiquette
Why is it that there are so many people that just have no courtesy while they are walking down the street. I'm not talking about giving the right of way or walking at snail's pace during rush hour. I'm not even going to get into the idea of taking up as much of the sidewalk with your befuddled family and the multi-child stroller. No, all of those things can be forgiven or at least overlooked for the most part. I'm talking about the plight of the fashion forward ladies.
For anyone that has never walked down New York streets (or any other urban sidewalks) wearing heels (spikey, high, pointed, unwieldy), please take a look at the footwear around you. Take a good look at the reason why many ladies will not walk on grates or manhole covers. We get stuck. For some shoes, they come off entirely. Others mearly keep you locked in place as your leg tries to detatch from your foot.
In a city that has so many grates and manhole covers as NYC, it becomes a dangerous obstacle course without having to push stupid flat-shoed people out of the way. I am pleading to all pedestrians out there; please do not make anyone in heels walk on the grates. We are all very frustrated with avoiding very avoidable broken ankles.
